NIST ATP Award
In 2001, TFS was the first firm in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to receive an award from the Advanced Technology Program (ATP), since its inception in 1990, at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The funding supported development of concepts and an ultra-pure TEP™ system for selectively removing ceramic impurities from metal powders. It promoted close cooperation between TFS and Carpenter Powder Products, Bridgeville, PA. Also established were optical microscopic methods by which process efficiency and product quality could be rapidly and quantitatively measured.
The ATP was created to bridge the gap between the research lab and the marketplace, stimulating prosperity through innovation. Through partnerships with the private sector, ATP’s early stage investment accelerated the development of innovative technologies that promise significant commercial payoffs and widespread benefits for the nation.
Prior to the ATP award, TFS received seed grant funds from the Kentucky EPSCoR program (at the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation - KSTC), as part of the new Kentucky Innovation Initiative. It supported the development of the ATP proposal to NIST. For more information about KSTC programs, contact Kris Kimel, President (859) 233-3502.
